Include DOI on publications
accepted
2
Display DOI information on publications.
Proposal
We will improve the amount of information that a user can see about a publication, by providing links to more sources of information. We will show the link to this information on the publication modal, as well as the individual page of the publication. We will display a link to both the publisher copy of the publication, as well as the link to the location that the source is curated from, e.g. PubMed.
Stories
As a visitor I want to have a link to the publisher’s version of the article, so that I can see the full text of the article. (inferred here is that the DOI resolver is the best way to do this)
As a visitor I want to be able to see the DOI as one of the identifiers of the bibliographic item, so that various bookmarklets and other bibliographic add ons will work with the bibliographic entry.
As a visitor I want to be able to have a link to the external link associated with the entry of an article if it is available so that I can quickly go to the external link and use the bibliographic tools there.
Comments
Yes this is absolutely possible, the information is there. What is the intended purpose of displaying the DOI?
The original request indicated that this was important for REF and other research purposes. If it is possible to include a DOI resolver so much the better as it then allows the visitor to get to a full-text version of the publication if this is available and (accessible by them)
A DOI is fast becoming a more accepted quick reference to a paper, most websites publish them now alongside the more traditional full reference and it also helps with Altmetrics integration - the Altmetrics browser toolbar for example scans the page for a DOI. In my opinion new digital tools developed to support scientific publishing/dissemination are likely to work in this way too, so it could help to future proof how we reference articles on Haiku.
Haiku Oversight Committee:
This would be a very useful piece of development work for the REF - as all researchers will be required to have a copy of their work in an Open Access repository. For the moment a link to a DOI resolver would be ideal here. We are in the process of investigating whether it would be possible to supply a link to the material lodged with the Oxford Research Archive.
I'm fairly sure the DOI is included in Symplectic. It is also possible to use a DOI resolver to point to the most appropriate repository for that particular publication. This would be really useful.
