Jo Silva

Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences, Biomedical Research Unit, CSM, Botnar Research Centre, The Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, The Arthritis Research UK Centre for Osteoarthritis Pathogenesis,

As Communications Officer, I am responsible for communications at NDORMS to raise awareness about the incredible research done at the department and how the work of our researchers is shaping healthcare and changing lives.

I manage internal communications, the Department's websites, media relations, social media and branding. I also provide communications support to the NIHR Oxford Musculoskeletal Biomedical Research Unit.

Myself and the Communications Team are here to support our academics and researchers to communicate their work and achievements to a variety of audiences, through different channels – from press releases to videos and media interviews.

I work closely with the University's Press Office and communications colleagues within the Medical Sciences Division.

I have worked in science communication and public engagement for eight years. Before joining NDORMS in June 2014, I was Education and Outreach Manager at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy. During my MSc in Science Communication at the University of the West of England in Bristol, I worked on a variety of science communication projects, namely education outreach with At-Bristol and event and project evaluation.

I have a degree in Marine Biology from the University of the Algarve, Portugal.
