Ability for editors in chief to run a regular check through all pages of their website for broken links (error 404).

There are numerous link checkers available - either software or on-line - and I don't think it is necessary for Haiku to reinvent the wheel here. I think it would be good for editors to have a recommended suite of programs that they can use to maintain their sites - perhaps we should create a list of the sort of tasks needed (monitoring, analytics, link checking etc) and review available tools and costs.

Anne is correct, there are well established tools to carry out this function. You could try http://www.brokenlinkcheck.com/ as a good start point.
